We are now looking for a Systems Prototyping Engineer for a high-tech company that works with unmanned systems and advanced software support systems within defense and security-critical applications. The focus is on drone-related applications and Ground Control / Command & Control environments.

In this role, you will join a smaller, technically strong team in the startup phase, where much has already been prototyped but where the next step is to explore how the solution should be developed further in a robust and scalable way. We assume that there are existing platforms, frameworks, and initiatives that can be used as building blocks – your task will be to explore these, test them in practice, and translate insights into concrete demo and prototype solutions.

This is not a traditional product development role. The emphasis is on system understanding, prototyping, and learning-by-doing rather than finished product code.

In this role, you will:

• Explore and evaluate existing platforms and systems for use in Ground Control / C2 environments
• Build prototypes and demo implementations to test architecture, integration, and use cases
• Work closely with systems engineers and development teams in the early phase (feasibility study)
• Translate needs and requirements into technical solutions through practical implementation
• Work hands-on with integration, interfaces, and system-level software
• Contribute to decision-making by showing how things work in practice, not through paper solutions

The role involves a technically broad day-to-day in an environment that values initiative, curiosity, and collaboration. Here, individuals who prefer to build and test rather than document in theory are rewarded.

• Has a few years of experience in software development or system-level development
• Has a good understanding of complex IT systems, preferably within planning, support systems, or C2-like environments
• Is comfortable quickly getting into new platforms, frameworks, and codebases
• Thrives in early phases where everything is not defined and where trial-and-error is a natural part of the work
• Is a clear doer – you learn by building, testing, and iterating
• Takes initiative and enjoys working hands-on in technically demanding environments

This is not a role for recent graduates, but it is also not a role that requires extreme seniority – the right attitude and technical curiosity are crucial.

• Experience with Java, JavaScript, and/or C++
• Familiarity with system integration or working with support/planning systems
• Experience in Linux environments
• Understanding of APIs, interface design, and system integration
• Background from defense, industry, traffic, railways, or other complex system environments

This is a consulting assignment via Friday with very good opportunities for extension.
